Civil Rights Leader Rev. Pinkney Jailed It's Time For Some Action
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Marcus Garvey, Fannie Lou Hammer, Stokely
Carmichael, Booker T. Washington, Shirley Chisholm, Malcolm X, Harriet
Tubman, are some of the civil rights leaders who have come before us.
We understand how much hell our ancestors went through in order to
survive in America. Today we have decided to fight to keep hope alive.
We are still fighting the same government our ancestors fought in the
1800’s. Racism today is not about hanging a black man or woman over a
bridge but using public policy and procedures to keep poor people oppressed.
The foundation of America is all about capitalism and wealth. African
people were enslaved by the Europeans and brought over to America in
the bottom of a slave ship called Jesus. African people were robbed of
their language, culture and their religion in the name of Christianity.
We have been played as fools by believing in the American dream, only
to be tricked into the American nightmare. Black people are the most
incarcerated in prisons, we have the highest unemployment rate, the
highest cases of Aids, and we have the highest cases of black on black
crime. We have the most single-family homes, the highest dropout rate in
education, and the highest homeless population. So, why should we as people
of color care about a government that doesn’t give a DAM about us! It’s time
for use to keep our mind on our freedom and our freedom on our mind. Those
who came before us laid the groundwork to show us how to fight with our
hands, feet, body, mind and soul.
Black people have overcome Jim Crow laws, Segregation, Ku Klux Klan and
being labeled as three fifths of a human being while living in America.
We have come to a time here in America where all people from different
ethnic and religious groups are being affected by a government that is
supposed to care about its people. Rev Pinkney, a God fearing man who has
followed the teachings of Jesus Christ, said, “ The Shepherd is supposed
to lay his life down for his sheep and teach God’s people to stand with
courage.” Rev. Pinkney has demonstrated openly that he is a true warrior
for God’s people.
Whirlpool Company is a Cancer to the Benton Harbor community, not just
there but around the world. Whirlpool Company has political power to
influence politicians in office to vote and push their agenda to steal
land away from God’s people. Rev. Pinkney and his followers have been
educating the world that our brothers and sisters living in Benton
Harbor have 70% unemployment, with 90% of the people living below the
poverty level. Why would the politicians want to build an 18-hole golf
course designed by Jack Nicklaus, a boat launch, and about 30 homes
that cost around a million dollars each on city property?
Today many churches have sold out to the government for faith-based money
to be quiet and go along with the status quo. I thank God for Rev. Pinkney
who is willing to rock the boat for justice for our people. Malcolm X
said it best “It’s too much singing going on in America and not enough
swinging. You can’t sing your way for freedom but you can swing your
way for freedom.” Our brothers and sisters in Benton Harbor Michigan
need our financial, spiritual and physical help. I’m asking the nation
to come to Benton Harbor, Michigan to let the power structure know and
the Benton Harbor families know, that Rev. Pinkney is one of us and we
will fight until he is set free. We must face the reality that we might
have to go to jail with Rev. Pinkney to expose the racist court system
and Judges in Benton Harbor Michigan. The sleeping giant has now
awakened and we will not be toyed with any longer. Rev. Pinkney has
sacrificed himself and his family to stand with courage, challenge the
power structure, and the corrupt politicians, and the court system. We
must register our people to vote and educate them on the power of their
vote. National Network In Action in July will be standing with Rev.
Pinkney and the Benton Harbor family for Freedom, Justice and Equality.
It is time for the community to step up to the plate because one of our
leaders has been taken down, and now it’s time for us to respond.
